Tutoring Services
What
to expect when you or your
child is tutored
The philosophy of Academics Upward
Tutoring is that each client is going to learn at a different rate.
Sometimes clients will need only one or two contract periods to feel
confident enough to continue studies independently, while others need
longer support. This is discussed and negotiated at the end of each
contract period.
Clients are seen on an individual
basis and there are no group sessions as seen with some of the larger
national tutoring services. Upfront expensive testing that requires
several hours is also not required. Clients will be asked to bring the
current learning materials being used and are assisted with homework
and test corrections. Clients who are attending classes will also need
a separate notebook just for their tutoring time for keeping notes and
filing additional assignments from their tutor.
Other areas of assistance are provided
in organizational skills, memory techniques, and learning
manipulatives. Academics Upward Tutoring also offers standardized test
preparations for a variety of tests such as GED, SAT, ACT, LSAT, and
GRE. These clients should expect to spend at least 4 weeks prior to
their scheduled testing date in order to gain the confidence and skills
needed to score well on a standardized test.
Lastly,
teamwork is needed if tutoring is to be successful. For minor children,
this means giving your children assistance between tutoring sessions
and making sure they get their proper rest and a healthy diet. For
adults, it means being responsible for doing work outside of our
sessions and coming prepared to their next session. Both types of
clients need to be aware that time priorities will need to shift if
tutoring is going to be productive. Sometimes this means giving up some
routine activities for a period of weeks.
Academics Upward Tutoring Management
wants each client to become a successful and independent learner and to
take charge of his/her own life-long learning. We look forward to
working with you!
Fee Schedule
The fee schedule below is based on a
sliding scale depending on student grade level, type of course, and
services being offered. If a client needs a weekend appointment, then
additional fees will be charged for those time slots since these will
cut into personal time. Fees will be changed periodically to keep up
with competitive pricing and other increases in operating costs.
